I've never used stock footage before - how do I go about it?

It's actually quite a straightforward process and we try to keep things as simple as possible at Clips & Footage.

The first step is research. You can either research yourself using the search option on the website or you can zap your wish list to us by email. Both of these options are entirely free

Once you have had a chance to digest the material that the search has revealed, you can proceed to view it. You can do this by requesting clips to be sent to you by email as mpegs. You can also visit our central London office and view and dub the clips you like and take them to your edit or we can compile a tape for you.

We only charge for the last option, from £55 depending on the complexity of the job

Help! I've been give a brief, but need some help with ideas.

We like to consider ourselves part of our clients' creative team and love to come up with suitable ideas and clips. Our staff have worked on the other side of the fence and have an eye for that perfect shot.

On what formats can you supply material?

We can send a few initial clips via mpeg. A research viewing screener can be delivered on VHS. Master material can be supplied on any format and standard, for example:

Digibeta, Betacam, DVcam, DVD and FTP in PAL, NTSC or SECAM.

I work to very tight deadlines. How fast can you deliver?

We generally send viewing material within 24 hours, but try to do so within the same day we receive the request.

The majority of our footage is stored in central London and so masters can be turned around within 24 hours. Other material takes around 2 days.

I would really like to use some theatrical trailer material in my project. How do I go about it?

We can license clips from trailers for films produced in the USA before 1964 (for trailers produced after this date we can advise you on usage on a case by case basis) provided that the selected clips can be clearly seen to be from the trailer rather than the feature film. The easiest way to do this is to include some of the original graphics used in the trailer.

e.g. "The most exciting drama ever filmed!" or "Marlon Brando as you've never seen him before!” or just the film’s title sequence.

What are production shorts?

Production shorts are short films about the making of feature film and as such can be incredibly useful. We can license clips showing rehearsal, interview and filming scenes.
