Cut to MCU of seagulls flying in cloudy sky. Film title superimposed onto sky scene. Cut to panning shot of idle cranes and barges moored on Thames with Tower Bridge in distance. Cut to various CU cranes, barges with cranes in mist beyond, empty lorries parked beside train lines with near deserted yard and dock buildings in bg. Man tears off / removes message from telex machine and logs details in book other office workers and wall clock at 4.20 pm in bg. CU male collecting data, entering in log and passing to another man. Panning shot follows man past communications equipment / radio to door with News Editor plaque CU man turning door knob and going through door.

Cut to wire room, where man replaces telephone while others stand by teleprinter machines. Cut to vs of men and printing machines, loading paper, rollers moving feeding paper through preparing news copy. Cut to editorial team; Man with sitting at desk preparing dummy layout of newspaper, man checking the paper and placing into wooden tray which is collected and taken out of shot. Paper slotted into ‘shuttle’ and sent up to next in line - the compositors. VS of men checking stories and numbering them. CU working lino-type machine and completed printing block. Block of print and paper copy united and passed to man compiling newspaper pages who checks blocks against draft before arranging them in frame frame being placed in machine and making test print.
Cut to sign on door ‘Features’. Lady opens door to reveal Features editor (smoking pipe) and his team checking their contributions; painting of soldiers in dress uniform on horseback, photos of footballers etc. Pan out to vs of men typing on manual typewriters compiling their editorial interspersed with draft copies of printing coming off the press. Cut CU sub editor working on layout, pan out to view clock on wall 8.30 pm.
Cut vs men arranging print blocks into wooden frames, applying ink with a roller, laying sheet of paper over blocks and printing a test page by running a wooden roller over the paper. CU of printed test page.
CU Sub editor at desk lights cigarette as a late news item arrives at his desk. CU of text; Explosion 1 Rush ‘Heavy casualties feared after explosion; ’CU men looking at news item, CU clock 8.56 pm CU men looking at sheet of paper, one man walks off carrying paper. Cut to night overview of stationary steam trains. CU train coming alongside platform at night. MCU Editorial team completing printing frame applying ink with hand roller laying sheet of paper over blocks and printing a test page by running a wooden roller over the paper. CU of printed test page. CU ‘HOE’ machine. Sliding drawer opens, man removes cover, wipes back of plate then lifts it to check print. CU Clock on wall 9.09 pm CU drum shaped machine, lid raised and curved plate removed. Plate taken and placed in another machine with a sheet of metal (? Die cast machine); operator moves various levers before removing finished printing plate. Panning shot following plate along conveyor belt and down to print room. Man takes plate and inserts it in rotary press, using spanner to secure it to machine. Machine operator gives ‘thumbs up’ sign before pressing the ‘start’ button on the printing press. CU of rotating printing plate and paper running off the ‘Crabtree’ printing press. CU printing machine working at high speed.
CU man standing by machinery, takes completed paper off and reads, another man sitting by machine takes off papers and places them in piles. Piles of papers collected and taken to packing room where they are bundled together and tied with string. CU steam train waiting at the station CU engine driver in cab. CU bundles of papers having destination labels attached; Euston, Dundrum, Lagos, Truro, Exeter, Roma, Bristol, Dublin, Milan, Prague, Vienna, The Hague. MLS despatch department. Loading bundles into van. Van driver getting into cab driving off. Night view from cab as van travels along. CU of back of van with doors open and men unloading bundles of papers and loading them onto the waiting train.

Fade into fleet of ‘The Guardian’ vans at and leaving Euston Station. CU bundle of papers being dropped on to pavement fade out/in ‘Gosdens’ papershop. Three bicycles at the edge of the pavement. Paperboys leave shop carrying paper bags / satchels over their shoulders, newsagent passes paper to one boy, they leave on their bikes. Panning shot of paperboy arriving at suburban detached house with trees and shrubs in the garden, stands his bike at the kerb, jumps over wrought iron gate and walks up path, takes paper out of bag, folds it and pushes it into a letter box.
