Fade into MCU busy street scene outside Manchester Guardian and Evening News Office building. Shots of vehicles and pedestrians.
Cut to CU men unloading large rolls of paper from flat bed lorry. CU roll of paper ‘Canadian International Paper Co.’ being lowered using rope, block and tackle into cellar of building, man guides it through cellar door (with one hand on controls to hoist)to two men waiting below, one removes rope. Panning shot of machine room men cleaning large printing machines and rollers.
Cut to Wire Room ; telex machines receiving messages; wire filing basket containing sheets of paper. Man tears off / removes message from telex machine and logs details in book other office workers and wall clock at 4.20 pm in bg. CU male collecting data, entering in log and passing to another man. Panning shot follows man past communications equipment / radio to door with News Editor plaque CU man turning door knob and going through door.
Cut MCU Man sitting at desk on the telephone as man comes in through door carrying sheets of paper in hand and places them on desk in front of editor. Man replaces phone, picks up papers, smokes cigarette whilst reading. CU man / editor listing news items for next issue. CU reporters in typing pool. Panning shot outside dock, cyclist, two telephone kiosks / boxes.

Vs CU man / reporter using public telephone whilst reading from paper / notebook. CU female telephonist wearing headset and typing on Royal manual typewriter. CU telephone, man lifts receiver and talks into it. Cut to street sign City of London, Fleet Street, ls busy Fleet Street. Zi to ms of The Guardian / Manchester Evening News building. Cut to office, man sitting behind desk, on telephone, female secretary approaches desk and places paper in front of man. CU of man speaking on white telephone, holds cigarette whilst reading from paper, view of other buildings through window behind.
Cut to CU panning shot of rows of box files and folders piled up on shelves. Men gathered around and mark up newspaper copy spread out on desk. Man takes folded newspaper from shelf and reads it. CU of man (Victor Zorza) sitting behind desk holding pen / pencil and marking up newspaper, cigarette in the other hand. Man unfolds paper and places on desk in front of Victor who then picks up black telephone receiver.
Cut to various reporters compiling their news items Richard Scott, Diplomatic Correspondent, smoking a cigarette in cigarette holder whilst typing, financial staff, political and parliamentary reporters, defence correspondent, Michael Frayn compiling miscellany column, cartoonist preparing ‘Papas’ cartoon.
Cut to various shots of men entering data into machines printing tape. CU tracking shot of progress of ticker tape into tray. Man standing reading papers, other men typing, large communication / transmission equipment in bg. Operator puts on headset.
