French soldiers climb hill, Le Ravin du Helly. Pan of terrain after battle. Clearing debris. Remains of destroyed German positions and guns, German prisoners of war escorted by cavalry, POWs looking cold in camp including officers.
Generals Mangin, Neville and Petain review French troops and present medals. March past.
French leaders: General Joffre poses with US General Pershing, President Poincare, Antonin Dubost, Paul Deschand, Premier Paul Painleve, General Petain pins medal on soldier and kisses him, and former Premier Rene Viviani.
French recruits receive physical training. Fire small arms. Troops are addressed by General Dubois. Digging defensive positions, laying railroad tracks. Building roads and bridges.
Stacks of munitions, gasoline and food supplies. Grenades, rifles, trench mortars and artillery pieces are fired. Railroad guns, mortars and howitzers.
Soldiers in trench. Cu hand with wrist watch. French soldiers advance on enemy. French soldiers move into trenches, over top and no man's land. Howitzer fired, hand grenade thrown. Soldiers run from one foxhole to another. German prisoners marched along and into camp.
Prisoners fed, ls camp, German prisoners behind barbed wire, one eats bread. Dead bodies in trench, soldier bandages another's hand, wounded are helped out of trench, carried on stretchers, Wounded are treated at an aid post,row of ambulances, ext field hospital, int ward, ext nurses and medics chat to injured, wounded evacuated by hospital train, int hospital ward, nurse treats patient. Titlecard: after the battle. French soldiers march past, cavalry charge, artillery past.
General Petain decorates soldiers with medals.
